Trainings
Aside from CARE’s menu of workshops, CARE also provides training for the UCSC community to deepen their understanding of our work and/or UCSC policies and be more involved with CARE’s efforts to create a safe environment for all.

SlugsCare
Each Fall and Winter quarter, newly admitted undergraduate and graduate students at UCSC are required to attend SlugsCare. This training includes a live, 3-part Zoom presentation featuring Title IX, Student Health Outreach & Promotion (SHOP), and CARE with the opportunity for Q&A throughout. After the training, slides and recordings are available via each student’s personal Canvas portal.
The goal of SlugsCare is to share on-campus resources that support students in understanding UCSC’s anti-discrimination and anti-violence policies, navigating the use of alcohol and other drugs, and connecting with CARE for advocacy services or workshops.
Alternative Training
CARE provides alternative training for campus affiliates who are sensitive to the content of UCSC’s mandatory student and employee training due to a recent or past experience of harm. Please email care@ucsc.edu to request an Alternative Training.
CARE currently provides alternatives for the following mandated training:
- SlugsCARE (for incoming undergraduate students)
- UC Learning Center: Preventing Harassment and Discrimination; supervisors, faculty, and MSP (for supervisory staff and faculty)
- UC Learning Center: UC Preventing Harassment and Discrimination; non-supervisors (for non-supervisory staff and student staff)
- UC Learning Center: UC Abusive Conduct in the Workplace (for staff and faculty)
- SAPU: Sexual Assault Prevention Undergraduate Students
- SAPG: Sexual Assault Prevention Graduate Students
If you don’t see the training you need listed above, contact care@ucsc.edu to see if we can create a new alternative!
CARE Ambassador Program
If you’re a student leader or are part of a student community — including clubs, student staff teams working on campus, Greek Letter Organizations, sports teams, and more — CARE wants to build a connection with your student group. Become a CARE Ambassador to build a relationship between your organization and CARE and to create a healthier, survivor-centered, and trauma-informed culture across campus!
CARE Ambassadors will meet for a consultation with CARE Professional Staff and Peer Educators to discuss:
- Resources and trainings
- Best practices for prevention education
- Further options that can serve your organization and create a culture of consent and accountability!
Then, CARE Ambassadors and CARE Staff will co-create and tailor prevention education for your community, such as workshops, events, zines/handouts, and facilitated conversations — together!
Email care_pec@ucsc.edu to learn more about becoming a CARE Ambassador, and set up a consultation!
NASPA Certified Peer Educator (CPE) Training
The Certified Peer Educator training consists of 8 modules designed to strengthen skills around peer education in a college setting. Orientation for new student staff working at CARE includes a curriculum that satisfies the NASPA Certified Peer Educator Program requirements. CARE staff also provide Certified Peer Educator training to students working in other offices on campus. If you or your office is interested in setting up a time for CARE to facilitate this training, please reach out to care_pec@ucsc.edu.
