Student Involvement Opportunities

CARE provides opportunities for students to get involved with our work at different levels depending on their interests. We facilitate training throughout the academic year for volunteers, and student staff to collaborate on prevention programs, outreach, a quarterly newsletter, and other activities.

Attend CARE Events
Are you interested in interpersonal violence prevention, alternative healing, self and community care, and more? Come to our events to access resources, connect with CARE, engage with your community, and become more informed and involved in anti-violence work. Visit the Upcoming Events page to learn more about our offerings.
Volunteer & Become a CARE Ambassador
Do you want to raise awareness of interpersonal violence across campus? Do you want to use your outreach expertise and prevention education superpowers? Do you want to join a team working to end violence? Attend Ambassador Training to join our volunteer program, learn more about preventing harm, and help educate the UCSC community!
Ambassador Training is an educational opportunity to learn about all things CARE. This training is offered once each academic year and consists of in-person workshops and self-paced online modules that start a foundation for topics like consent, healthy relationships, supporting survivors, and more. Participants who complete the entire training will receive a Certificate of Completion, a gift from CARE, and the opportunity to volunteer with us!
As a CARE Ambassador, you’ll assist with general outreach, including tabling, flyering, and facilitating collaborations between CARE and your own organization or community—whether you belong to a cultural organization, athletic team, Greek Letter Organization, or another student group. Ambassadors are critical to CARE’s mission of creating a safer campus, building a culture of consent, and representing a diverse student body.
Please visit the Sign-Up List to stay connected with CARE and be notified when the next Ambassador Training is scheduled.
Join the CARE Student Staff Team
Each academic year, CARE has opportunities for undergraduate students to apply for a variety of paid student staff positions. These include Peer Educators, Chancellor’s Undergraduate Internship Program (CUIP) interns, and Creative Engagement Specialists. CARE Peer Educators develop content for social media posts, newsletters, and workshops, and work together to plan CARE events. CUIP interns lead outreach efforts through flyering, tabling, and collaborating with other offices and organizations on campus. Creative Engagement Specialists work closely with Peer Educators to design flyers, Instagram posts, and other graphics for CARE’s outreach and marketing materials. To learn more about CARE’s peer education approach, please visit the What is Prevention? page of our website.
CARE posts open positions for CUIP interns each Winter, with applicants being matched to host offices in the spring for internships that start the following academic year. Applications for Peer Educators and Creative Engagement Specialists are posted in Spring for roles that start the following academic year. CARE hires both work-study and non-work-study students. All hiring for student staff is done through Handshake, and hiring announcements are shared here on CARE’s website and via our Instagram (@ucsantacruz_care).
Certified Peer Educator Training
CARE student staff orientation includes a curriculum that satisfies the NASPA Certified Peer Educator Program requirements. CARE also provides Certified Peer Educator training to students working in other offices on campus. The Certified Peer Educator training consists of 8 modules designed to strengthen skills around peer education in a college setting.
If you or your office is interested in setting up a time for CARE to facilitate this training, please reach out to care_pec@ucsc.edu. To learn more about other training opportunities from CARE, please visit our Trainings page.
